National Family Support Network welcomes the appointment of a new Minister for Drug Strategies

Minister for State and Labour TD, Aodhán Ó Riordáin has been given special responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy.

The National Family Support Network is delighted to welcome the appointment of Aodhán Ó Riordáin as the new Minister for Drugs Strategies. This follows months of campaigning by multiple drug service advocacy groups including the National Family Support Network, to have the role reinstated after it was subsumed into the Minister for Health’s portfolio last year.

Minister for State, Mr Ó Riordáin undertakes the new function along with his other responsibility of New Communities, Equality and Culture.

Sadie Grace of the National Family Support Network, welcomed the new appointment and urged the new Minister to engage with the Network as part of his new remit.

“The National Family Support Network would like to congratulate Aodhán on his new appointment as Minister of State with the responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy.  We would also like to invite him to meet with the Network to discuss reversing the austerity cuts the organisation has faced over the past number of years and to consider increasing resources for family support services throughout the country. Furthermore we would like Minster Ó’Riordáin to prioritise the inclusion of family members in the development of the new National Drugs Strategy. ”
