Annual Fundraiser 2015 - Sponsored Historical Walk

The National Family Support Network announces details of its Annual Fundraiser in aid of the Network’s Bereavement Support Fund.

The NFSN’s annual fundraising event will take place this Saturday the 5th of September at 1pm. This year the Network has planned a sponsored walk with a twist which will see the participants visit key historical points of interest on a 5km walk around Dublin’s North Inner City.

The walk will start at the Home Memorial, Buckingham Street in Dublin at 1pm and will take in key historical locations such as the Dublin and Monaghan Bombing Memorial and the Five Lamps before heading out of Dublin’s City centre along the North Strand Road and looping back into the city centre just before Fairview. The walk will finish at Mountjoy Square and all those taking part will receive a special event t-shirt and goodie bag.

All participants will be issued a sponsorship card prior to the event, in the hope that much needed funds will be raised for the National Family Support Network’s Bereavement Support Fund. The Fund supports families in the initial stages of bereavement through substance misuse.

Co-ordinator of the National Family Support Network Sadie Grace explains the importance of having such a fund available to family members;

Over the years the Bereavement Support Fund has helped numerous families who have suffered the traumatic experience of losing a loved one to substance misuse. In addition to this trauma, families often face great financial difficulty when confronted with the costs associated with being bereaved; such as funeral and medical expenses. The money raised through events like the Sponsored Historical Walk, enables the NFSN to provide a small grant which helps families cope with some of the financial costs associated with the death of their loved one. Every step and every cent raised by our supporters goes directly to help those most in need. It gives both the Network and I a great sense of pride to see so many people willing to help family members who are grieving a loved one. More often than not those who have previously been a recipient of the fund, come out in force to help raise funds for others in a similar situation. It really is a heart-warming experience and I personally want to thank all the wonderful participants who continue to support this worthy cause.

The walk will be a family friendly event and all ages are welcome. Those wishing to take part in the walk should contact the NFSN office on 01 8980148 or email info@fsn.ie to request a sponsorship pack.
